Project Description

William & Mary’s Master Plan vision for a distinct “Student Life Neighborhood” has been fully realized with a 63,000 SF addition and renovations to the Sadler Center Student Union. The project consolidates student services at the center of campus by providing a new home for the Division of Student Affairs, whose four departments and eleven offices had been dispersed across the campus.

The furniture solution in the space needed to enhance the design concept while performing at an institutional grade. To incorporate the student perspective into the design, feedback was solicited through furniture sampling and voting via QR codes. Faculty and staff continued to work with the design team throughout the process to help determine optimal locations for different types of furniture settings.

For the new point of entry, the College envisioned a welcoming signature feature that conveyed the college’s identity in a way that provided a variety of lobby seating. The whimsical feature lounge plays off the form of the abbreviated W&M wordmark to create a unique and engaging focal point. This area is extended vertically by branded learning stairs that provide a backdrop for the lounge along the circulation.

KSA Interiors partnered with Grimm + Parker Architects, to provide comprehensive furniture design that enhances and supports Willaim & Mary’s innovative program requirements.
