Client: University of Richmond
Description: The current Law School building at University of Richmond was originally opened in 1954, and it was enlarged in 1972 and 1981. In 1991, the building was significantly expanded, renovated, and refurbished, but the upgrades did not include needed HVAC and accessibility updates required for health and safety. This current project facilitated those needed renovations but also updated the impacted interior spaces. KSA’s role was to support U of R’s Design Architectural Services team in implementing a solution that utilized newly created building finish standards with additional attention to focal areas such as the Reading Room, Town Square and student study spaces.
KSA facilitated multiple stakeholder work sessions to help define the current and future needs of the students, faculty and administration. The work sessions included activity based planning through furniture mapping, 3D conceptualization of all custom features like the reading tables and all points of service. Phase 2 has just finished installing and the design team is currently in design development for phases 4 through 5. Target completion is for summer of 2023.
