The April meeting of the IFMA Richmond Chapter included a private tour of the new Basketball Development Center at VCU. In attendance were KSA Interiors’ Kim Schoenadel and Lorri Finn to see first-hand how our contribution to the center played into designing the new standard for VCU and world class facilities. KSA’s approach to furniture, fixtures and equipment design in the facility was driven by fulfilling the user experience to foster athletic excellence. This was done through creating a diverse furniture landscape that responded to a range of themes from comfort and rejuvenation to energizing team dynamics.

Located on West Marshall Street, north of the Siegel Center, the new VCU Basketball Development Center provides both the men’s and women’s programs with state-of-the-art facilities in one 62,000 square foot, two-story building that will aid in recruiting and player/team development. Each team has their own locker rooms, practice court with viewing deck, and theater with about 25 seats to watch tapes from practice and upcoming opponents. There are also areas for academics, strength and conditioning, training, hydrotherapy, and a common area for meals. Additionally, there are offices and conference rooms for coaches and support staff who spend numerous hours a week getting the Ram teams ready for the upcoming season.
